Scope:
Functional safety is, for the purpose of this Report, defined as:- "Part of the overall safety relating to the equipment and its associated control system which depends on the correct funtioning of electrical, electronic, programmable electronic (E/E/PE) safety-related systems, other technology safety related systems",external risk reduction facilities. This definiton is based on IEC 61508-4 (see Annex B for an overview of IEC 61508)
